Two young people fall into the abyss of depression, then climb out as they learn coping skills that nourish resilience. Keisha, a 15-year-old immigrant from Ghana, doesn’t fit in at school, where some kids call her "spearchucker"; Josh’s brother just died, and with his parents so deep in grief that they don’t seem to care about him at all, he’s fallen in with a bad crowd. Each reaches out for help and, embracing something positive—soccer for Josh, painting for Keisha—learns to accept the knocks and take small steps toward a better life. Grades 7–12. Color. 29 minutes.
